Dorothy Catalonia seems to be evil, scheming, hateful... and I’m sure you could think of other terms to describe her. But that’s only on the outside. She lost a lot of people in her life who meant a lot to her - her parents, grandparents... the people who had the most influence on her life didn’t stay around long.

The only thing known for certain about Dorothy is that she cared about people a different way than most do. Her views were twisted by those around her, and she had a cruel way of expressing her concern for the human population.  Her views were much the same as Dekim Barton’s (see Gundam Wing Series Info). He intended to crash a colony on Earth, and other dangerous things as such.  I’m not quite sure what it was he had intended to do, but I don’t think it would have been effective. (I think he just wanted the colonies to have more power).  It was lucky the scientists saw the flaws in his plan, saw the terrible grief of the world when all would be said and done.

Dorothy was willing to make a similar sacrifice, but for a greater cause than just to gain power.  She was going to show humanity such a terrible war that they would never want to fight again. I seriously doubt that her plan would have worked, because there will always be evil villains out there who don’t care anything about the effects on the hearts of many.  History repeats itself, and (because I love this quote) “History is an endless waltz, so to speak.  The triple measure of war, peace, and revolution goes on and on.” You can’t escape the inevitable, but it was good of Dorothy to try.

At the end, there’s a noticable change in Dorothy. Everything she once knew is proven to be wrong, and she is forced to change her ideal beliefs.

Dorothy did care about the people, and she knew that to gain peace a great sacrifice had to be made.  Maybe she’s a little more intelligent than most of us - at least Relena, who intended to gain peace without any type of sacrifice. You have to give a little to get a little. Dorothy can face the facts, she’s tough, and perhaps she’s a little stronger than the rest of us.
